Register Now for Symposium on Neo-censorship, 18-20 Sept. , Amsterdam The final program of the International Symposium on Neo-Censorship entitled Threats to the Open Book is now available. This Symposium will be organised in Amsterdam on 18-20 September 2008 as part of the Amsterdam World Book Capital 2008 program. The 2008 IPA Freedom to Publish Prize will be presented during the opening ceremony of the Symposium on 18 September 2008. This year's recepient is Turkish publisher Ragip Zarakolu, whose sentencing on 17 June 2008 under Article 301 TPC was condemned by IPA. See Press Release of 1 July 2008. To Register, click HERE.IPA Urges Vietnam to Strengthen Private PublishingFollowing the adoption of a resolution on freedom to publish in Vietnam by its 28th Congress, the International Publishers Association (IPA) wrote to the Vietnamese Prime Minister, urging him to take concrete steps to improve the conditions of freedom to publish in Vietnam. See Press Release of 20 June 2008.Ljubljana Appointed World Book Capital 2010At a meeting in Paris on 18 June 2008, the Jury of World Book Capital, a jury which includes IPA, IBF, IFLA and UNESCO, appointed Ljubljana as World Book Capital 2010 for the quality of its application, as well as for its diverse and complete programme, widely and enthusiastically supported by all players involved in the book industry (publishers, bookstores and libraries).
