Freedom for Ragip!

IPA & Freedom to Publish Prize PDF E-mail

Introduction

Freedom of expression and freedom to publish are under attack worldwide. In numerous countries around the world, writers and publishers are harassed, prosecuted, jailed, tortured, or even killed sometimes for what they write and publish. This is the reason why IPA decided to create an annual international freedom to publish prize in 2005. This prize (called the "IPA Freedom to Publish Prize") is intended to honour, each year, a person or an organisation/institution that has made a notable contribution to the defence and promotion of freedom to publish anywhere in the world. The IPA Freedom to Publish Prize is awarded for exemplary courage in upholding freedom of expression and freedom to publish. It consists of a monetary award and a certificate, and is usually awarded by the IPA President in person.
