Structure

The International Publishers Association (IPA) is an international industry federation representing all aspects of book and journal publishing. Established in 1896, IPA's mission is to promote and protect publishing and to raise awareness for publishing as a force for economic, cultural and political development. Around the world IPA actively fights against censorship and promotes copyright, literacy and freedom to publish. IPA is an industry association with a human rights mandate.

Membership

National book and journal publishers associations can participate in the work of IPA as “Regular Members”. International publishers organisations with specialised publishing interests as well as international regional publishers associations may become IPA “Associate Members”. Individual publishing houses can only become IPA members under limited circumstances. For more about IPA Membership and the different membership categories, please click here.

Current membership includes some 6 publishers' organisations from approximately 50 countries. This includes the international regional publisher associations from the Asia-Pacific region (APPA), Latin America (GIE), the Arab countries (APU), Africa (APNET), and Europe (FEP), as well as specialist publishers associations such as the International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers (STM), the International Federation of Scholarly Publishers (IFSP), and the International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP-CIEM).
