The International Publishers Association (IPA) is an international industry federation representing all aspects of book and journal publishing. Established in 1896, IPA's mission is to promote and protect publishing and to raise awareness for publishing as a force for economic, cultural and political development. Around the world IPA actively fights against censorship and promotes copyright, literacy and freedom to publish. IPA is an industry association with a human rights mandate.

In Frankfurt this year, the 2010 IPA International Publishing Update focused on the digital migration of digital publishing. Next year, join un for the 2011 IPA International Publishing on Friday, 14 October 2011 in Room Symmetrie (Hall 8.1) at 10:30 a.m.!

Following Seoul in June 2008, the 29th IPA Publishers' Congress will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, on 12-14 June 2012, on the eve of the Cape Town Book Fair.

The 7th IPA Copyright Symposium took place in Abu Dhabi from 28 February to 1 March 2010, on the eve of the Abu Dhabi Book Fair (2-7 March 2010).

IPA established the IPA Freedom to Publish Prize to honour a person who has made an important contribution to the defence and promotion of freedom to publish anywhere in the world. The 2009 Award was awarded in Oslo, Norway, on 4 June 2009 as part of the Global Forum on Freedom of Expression IPA was a partner of. This year, the Award Ceremony will mark the closing of the international days of the Istanbul Book Fair on 2nd November 2010.
