Publishing house Kogan Page of the United Kingdom and Mr. Ashoka Bandula Weerawardhana of Sri Lanka are the winners of the 2022 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing.

The ongoing APIF-DAISY Consortium accessible publishing initiative will enter its next phase in December when it brings African publishers to Nairobi for face-to-face training.

A special accessibility seminar for professionals will be held at the Guadalajara International Book Fair on Tuesday 29 November 2022, which will also include the announcement of the winners of the 2022 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing.

The Accessible Books Consortium has partnered with accessibility experts at the DAISY Consortium to produce a new ABC course on accessible publishing. The new module, which is offered free of charge, covers key topics for publishers including best practices, accessibility standards and accessibility metadata.


The World Intellectual Property Organization Assemblies took place in Geneva and online from 14 to 22 July. Member States brought years of negotiations on two issues closer to resolution with agreement on two Diplomatic Conferences. The Assemblies also included a side event on the Marrakesh Treaty.

London Book Fair (5-7 April) was bristling, bringing back memories of easier times. IPA was also back and with a big focus on sustainability. From inspiring the leaders of the future through children’s books, to a challenging and thought-provoking Sustainability keynote. From a new InSPIRe report on how to make our sector more sustainable and resilient to practical panel discussion on what publishers can do now. All of this crowned by the Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact reaching and surpassing 200 signatories.
