The two co-founders gave their insights into the inspiration behind the project and a glimpse of the imagination required to turn an iconic but dilapidated library as well as two other libraries in Nairobi into hubs for “knowledge production, shared experiences, cultural leadership and information exchange.”
Koinange and Wachuka talk about the colonial past of the library and the books it contained as well as their aspirations for the future, including publishing.
They also reflect on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the communities that would normally use the libraries and what they have been doing to help support children while schools are closed.
