IPA Secretary General, José Borghino, joined representatves from the music and film sectors, in presenting the importance of gathering data on the creative industries to an audience of Member States of the African Regional Intellectual Property Office (ARIPO) at the WIPO-convened workshop, On Building National Capacity for Analysis of Creative Industries.

Held on 31 August 2021, the session builds on IPA’s own work with WIPO to gather global publishing industry statistics. The ARIPO Member States’ representatives welcomed the informative one-day session and committed to continuing the exchange with WIPO to examine how they could work towards improved data collection on the Cultural Industries, especially where data blackspots have emerged and despite the many complexities involved.

Alongside IPA, the Federation of European Publishers presented its experience of gathering regional data in the publishing sector, and IFPI and CISAC, spoke about music sector data, with Bertrand Moullier sharing his experience of data collection in the audiovisual sector.
