The French Publishers Association (SNE) has produced a comprehensive economic study of the French publishing market, available to view here.
In 2012, publishers' net revenues within France fell 1.2% to € 2,771 million, with pocket books and digital sales propping up the market. Pocket books represented 13.3%, and e-books 3.1% of total sales. Fastest growing categories were Humanities and Social Sciences (up 11.9%) and children's books (up 3.5%). Looking beyond French borders, overseas licensing deals now contribute between 5 and 7% of publishers’ turnover, with Chinese the biggest market and children's books and comics by far the largest contributors.
