The major highlight was a presentation by Portuguese Education Minister, João Costa, who spoke at length of his plans to modernise the Portuguese educational system. EPF members were able to confirm the superiority of a mixed or hybrid approach to delivery of educational resources, empowering teachers to choose what works best for their students: hard copy, digital or a mix.

The local publishers were happy to hear that the Minister was taking a cautious and consultative approach to digitising the curriculum.

Other highlights of the meeting included Santiago Romero from Spain’s educational publishers association, ANELE, giving an overview of the Spanish system; Ingrid Skrede co-founder of the tech startup Ludenso outlining the educational uses of Augmented Reality; chair of the LatAm EPF, Eduardo Rodrigues, speaking about Brazil’s educational issues; and Katarzyna Ptaszyńska from the Polish educational publisher Learnetic describing a new survey which will be distributed to EPF members in an effort to track the progress of global digital transformation in education.

There will be a short virtual EPF meeting in February 2023 and a physical meeting in London on 21 April 2023.
