The 13 December workshop, covering both technical and policy learning, will move the publishers beyond the webinars and online training they took during the summer.

Led by Prashant Verma, a DAISY-affiliated international authority on accessible publishing, a dozen publishers are expected to attend from Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

They will gather at the Makadara branch of the McMillan Library, in Eastlands, which was restored by Book Bunk with APIF funding provided in 2019-2020. The costs of participation in the one-day workshop are also covered by the APIF.

The publishers will refresh their knowledge of the tools and techniques for creating EPUB versions of their publications, which will be suitable for the market and accessible to persons with disabilities. Strategies for promoting inclusive publishing in Africa will also be discussed.

Publishers who reach this advanced stage in the APIF-DAISY programme are encouraged to produce new accessible works for African readers in 2023, which they can do with a $1,000 APIF grant available to them.
