The program is based on the theme of “Shaping the Future: Innovation Meets Experience” exploring how publishers can better use innovation and technology to meet customer’s changing needs and learn from the wealth of experience acquired by publishers from all around the world. This year’s line-up includes keynote sessions based on the IPA core pillars of Copyright and Freedom to Publish.

On day one, the session “Shaping the Future of IP in Publishing” will feature two of the world’s foremost IP influencers, The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Dr Francis Gurry and Maria Pallante, former US Register of Copyrights and current President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers (AAP), trading views on how publishers can plan for the future of copyright during a headline debate.

On day two, Kristenn Einarsson of the Norwegian Publishers Association will chair the keynote session on “The Threat of Self-Censorship in Publishing.” This session features a discussion with William Nygaard, former CEO, Aschehoug, Norway publisher of arguably one of the most controversial and acclaimed novels ever written, Salman Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses, and Trasvin Jittidecharak, founder of the independent Silkworm Books and a key opinion leader on complex issues surrounding freedom to publish in Asia.

Other sessions include those on the social responsibility of publishers, chaired by Hugo Setzer, (CEO, Manual Moderno; IPA Vice-President, Mexico), Creating the Readers of the Future, chaired by Bodour Al Qasimi (Founder and CEO, Kalimat Group), and How STM publishers have avoided disruption, chaired by Michael Mabe (CEO, STM Association). Finally, former IPA President Richard Charkin (Director, Bloomsbury, UK) will lead a conversation on the “Problems and Opportunities of Globalization” for the publishing industry.

The program also showcases a number of locally focused sessions such as the Book Markets in India, chaired by Asoke Ghosh (Chairman, Prentice Hall of India, India) and a look at the new online literature trends in China, chaired by Mingzhou Zhang (General manager, China Children’s Press and Publication Group).

“The IPA World Congress is a unique venue for publishers to come together and discuss industry challenges and opportunities”, says Dr Michiel Kolman, IPA President. “But it’s also a time where publishers can meet old friends and contacts, make new ones, boost their business prospects, communicate with each other and learn new strategies that will help them adapt to the changing industry. We are looking forward to welcoming all publishers to Delhi in February 2018”.

All key sessions will be interpreted in Hindi for the benefit of the participants. For further details on the programme and new speakers as they are confirmed please visit: http://www.fiponline.org/event/
