Presentations included updates on site-blocking procedures available in Spain, Italy, Greece, UK and Russia by representatives of national authorities. Brazil presented the strategic plans and outcomes of the work developed by the National Council on Combating Piracy and Intellectual Property Crimes (CNCP), the Brazilian entity responsible for coordinating the fight against piracy and IP crimes, created in 2004. A presentation on the ongoing copyright law review in Switzerland highlighted fighting against uploads and focussing on hosting providers will be the main priorities, given that downloads are covered by the private copy exception, and focused on assessing how blockchain could contribute to more effective enforcement strategies in the future.

Administrative and judiciary enforcement procedures available in China were presented by the National Copyright Authority of China, including the results achieved by IP specialized courts, internet courts, administrative enforcement agencies, and the outcomes of the Cyber Sword operation coordinated by the NCAC.

Italy, Korea and the European Union representatives presented on their initiatives to prevent paid advertising on copyright infringing websites. Amazon, Google, Facebook and Alibaba presented their IP protection programs and its outcomes.

WIPO commissioned a study on IP enforcement measures, especially anti-piracy measures in the digital environment, which was presented by authors Dr. Frederick Mostert, Professor of Practice at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College, London, Research Fellow at the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre, and Ms. Jane Lambert, Barrister, Gray’s Inn, London.
