The shortlist for the 2021 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing has been posted. The WIPO led Accessible Books Consortium will unveil the names of the winners at the awards ceremony to be held at the Frankfurter Buchmesse on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
The 41st session of the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) took place in hybrid format from 28 June to 1 July. Member States agreed not to embark on any law-making (normative) discussions while face-to-face meetings remain impractical, but that hasn’t stopped some from trying to use the pandemic as a pretext for more and broader exceptions and limitations to copyright, especially in the field of education publishing.

The International Publishers Association (IPA) is delighted to confirm that the ceremony for 2021 IPA Prix Voltaire will take place on 1 December at the 35th Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara. The prize recongizes exemplary courage in upholding the Freedom to Publish and enabling others to exercise their freedom of expression. Nominations close on 20 June 2021.
The final day of this SCCR began with the Chair recognising a cloud of fatigue in the room and encouraging delegates to press on through the day to finish the week.
Day 4 of this 42nd meeting of the SCCR picked up exactly where Day 3 left off, with discussions on exceptions and limitations and observer organisations continuing their statements.
Day 3 of SCCR 42 opened with further discussion and analysis of the new text on the broadcasting treaty with the afternoon reserved for discussions on exceptions and limitations.
