A crucial part of IPA's mission is to inform member associations and the wider global publishing community about breaking developments which will impact publishers. We do this through a number of channels. the IPA website, our monthly e-newsletter, press releases and the IPA's dedicated social media feeds.

At the end of the IPA Board Meeting held at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva on 23rd January 2012, IPA President YoungSuk "Y.S." Chi announced that Bangkok, Thailand, was voted host of the 30th IPA Congress to be held in 2014. Bangkok will be World Book Capital 2013 from 23rd April 2013 until 22nd April 2014.

From now on, IPA Congresses will be held every two years instead of every four years.

The Board of the International Publishers Association (IPA), meeting at World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) headquarters in Geneva on 23rd January 2012, selected Bangkok, Thailand, from among many highly commendable candidates as host of the 30th IPA Congress to be held in 2014, announced IPA President YoungSuk “Y.S.” Chi.

IPA used to organise every two years alternately an international Congress or an international Copyright Symposium, in cooperation with one of its member associations. Starting with its 30th Congress in Bangkok in 2014, IPA will organise a Congress every two years, accelerating the pace of IPA Congresses in a changing world. The IPA Congress has been an important industry event since its inception in 1896, aiming to offer a platform for full and open discussion among publishers from all over the world on basic industry problems and challenges. The next IPA Congress, hosted by the Publishers Association of South Africa (PASA), will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 12 to 14 June 2012. To register online, please go to: http://www.ipa2012.co.za/

Chi declares: “The IPA Executive Committee (Board) appreciated the enthusiasm of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT), the broad involvement of PUBAT members, the support by other organisations and institutions, the financial commitment of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to support the IPA Congress, and the meticulous and thoughtful preparation of the application. All this bodes well for a successful IPA Congress in 2014”.

The 30th IPA Congress will be a unique opportunity to understand the Thai publishing industry and the South East Asian book market as a whole at a time when Bangkok will be World Book Capital 2013 (until 22nd April 2014).
