We do this through a number of channels. the IPA website, our monthly e-newsletter, press releases and the IPA's dedicated social media feeds.

Iraqi publisher Mazin Lateef Ali, abducted in January 2020, awarded the 2023 International Publishers Association’s Prix Voltaire laureate at the award ceremony at the World Expression Forum in Lillehammer, Norway. The IPA also announced a Prix Voltaire Special Award for murdered Ukrainian children’s book author and poet, Volodymyr Vakulenko.

Freedom to Publish session at London Book Fair 2023

The Freedom to Publish highlight of the fair was the last session on the main stage – Authors and Publishers Fighting Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) and Censorship – followed by the announcement of the 2023 IPA Prix Voltaire shortlist.

South Africa copyright reform

Copyright Reform or Reframe?, a monograph published on 20 April by South African publisher Juta, provides a comprehensive legal analysis of most of the new provisions of the South African Copyright and Performers’ Protection Amendment Bills. The authors, all of them attorneys or advocates with specialist practices in the field of intellectual property law – in particular, copyright – contributed to the submission of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law on the Bills to South Africa’s Parliament and the Provincial Legislatures in 2023.
