The inaugural Educational Publishers Forum (EPF) Malaysia took place on 9 August under the banner Global Textbook Trends 2022: Insights For Governments And Publishers. The 7-hour online forum, organised by the Malaysian Book Publishers Association (MABOPA), featured 24 speakers from 12 countries and was a resounding success attracting over 200 attendees including a large number of people from the Malaysian ministry of education. IPA was an event partner.
On 11 August, the IPA, along with other international rightsholder organisations, filed what is known as an ‘Amicus Brief’ in New York in support of four US publishers (Hachette, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House and Wiley) in the case Hachette et al vs Internet Archive. This is a copyright infringement lawsuit against the Internet Archive that began in June 2020.
Nominations are open for the ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing until 30 September 2022. The award recognises a publisher and a project initiative that each demonstrate outstanding leadership and achievements in advancing the accessibility of commercial e-books or other digital publications for persons who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print-disabled.
