The Sheikh Zayed Book Award, one of the world’s leading prizes dedicated to Arabic literature and culture, is open to receive submissions for its nine categories until Saturday 1st October 2022.
A crucial part of IPA's mission is to inform member associations and the wider global publishing community about breaking developments which will impact publishers. We do this through a number of channels. the IPA website, our monthly e-newsletter, press releases and the IPA's dedicated social media feeds.
On 25 August 2022, the Hanoi court of appeal upheld the conviction of Vietnamese publisher, journalist and author Pham Doan Trang on charges of alleged “anti-state propaganda”. IPA condemns the judgement and calls on international governments that value freedom of expression to use all diplomatic means to secure Pham Doan Trang’s release on the grounds that her trial was compromised, and especially in light of reports of ill health.
On 28 July 2022, the newest list of books for the UN SDG Book Club was announced. The list of titles in all six official UN languages, aimed at children aged 6-12, focuses on SDG 16 – peace, justice and strong institutions.
The IPA, like the entire publishing community around the world, reacted with a combination shock and disgust at the news of the brutal attack on Salman Rushdie at the Chautauqua Institution in New York last Friday.
